Skin tracking for iPhone
shimmr is a consumer iOS application for tracking the appearance of your skin over time. It is built around a simple idea: skin changes slowly, memory is unreliable, and the only fair comparison for your skin is your own skin on a previous day.
How it works
Users capture a short guided photo session on iPhone. The app standardizes each capture — fixed exposure, white balance, and lighting — so that images taken weeks apart remain comparable. From each session, shimmr logs observable features and produces trend lines you can review over days, weeks, and months.
What it tracks
- Blemish and breakout counts over time
- Redness and evenness of tone
- Post-blemish marks and how long they persist
- Skin texture trends across longer time horizons
- Routine and product logging, so changes can be lined up against what you were using
Product guidance
shimmr includes a curated skincare guide organized by routine step and skin concern, written and reviewed by a board-certified dermatologist to reflect standard dermatologic practice — including honest notes on where over-the-counter products end and prescription treatment begins.

Facial hair and grooming tracking
An iOS application applying the same standardized capture system to facial hair growth, density, and coverage over time — an area where change is slow, progress is easy to misjudge day to day, and the available consumer information is largely anecdotal.
Additional tracking applications
We are evaluating other visible characteristics that follow the same pattern: meaningful change over weeks to months, poor human recall, and a market currently served by guesswork.
Announcements are made on this website and through our App Store listings.

Skin Is the Signal
What Psoriatic Disease Reveals About Inflammation, the Body, and a Broken Path to Care
A book about psoriasis as it actually is: not a cosmetic nuisance, but a signal of systemic inflammation that can move into the joints, the cardiovascular system, and beyond — often missed for years, even by physicians, even in themselves.
Skin Is the Signal traces the disease from what shows up on the skin to what it means for the whole body, walks through the modern treatment landscape from topicals through biologics, and confronts the practical barriers patients face in getting diagnosed and treated: insurance denials, care coordination failures, and a specialist system that routinely misses the connection between a rash and a joint.
It closes with a practical roadmap for building a care team and advocating for appropriate treatment, including a joint-symptom self-check, a visit-preparation worksheet, and an insurance appeals playbook.
